The Rook, a time-traveling hero of the fictional world, was first introduced in March 1977 through American company Warren Publishing's Eerie, Vampirella & Warren Presents magazines.

In the 1980s, The Rook's popularity surged, resulting in the creation of his own comic magazine titled The Rook Magazine. During the 1990s, Harris Comics' Chains of Chaos and The Rook comic book miniseries featured the character.

The Rook resurfaced in Dark Horse Comics' Eerie Archives 17 in 2014, which led to the creation of new adventures for the character in 2015's Dark Horse Presents and The Rook comic book series. Steven Grant authored the new stories, with Paul Gulacy providing the illustrations.
